Second Chance Animal Shelter
I have been following the ongoing controversy regarding the unfinished structure for the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
It's understandable this is an emotionally charged issue. Let's all step back, take a deep breath and take a realistic look at the whole picture.
I think everyone can agree that a shelter is needed. We would all like to see the animals cared for in a safe, humane environment that our community can afford and support in both monetary donations and volunteer time. We need a shelter that makes economic sense too.
Last Saturday I took the opportunity to tour the unfinished structure, as the public was invited. I wanted to see it for myself, listen to the valid concerns and feel free to ask questions.
The board members and volunteers present were polite and informative. I was able to come to my own conclusion based on facts, common sense and logic.
I support Second Chance board members' decision to sell the property. I would encourage anyone who has criticized or passed judgement on this decision to visit the site.
There is another tour at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, March 30. Educate yourselves. Attend, bring an open mind, ask questions and listen.
