Badger golf team wins Kellogg invite, Derek Deitz scores overall low round
Bonners Ferry High School golfers won with a team total of 322 points during the April 26 Intermountain League match, which included five teams for 18 holes.
The match was played in Pinehurst at Kellogg’s home course. Kellogg placed second with 328; St. Maries took third with 348; fourth was Timberlake with 359; and Priest River placed fifth with 415.
Overall low round for the tournament was Derek Deitz with a 2 over par 74. Carey Reynolds scored 79, Dillon Deitz 83, Aaron Moe 86 and Kyle Russell 119.
On April 25, the Badgers won a 9-hole match against St. Maries and Clark Fork with a team total of 164. Derek Deitz had the low overall round with 38, Reynolds 42, Dillon Deitz 44, Moe 40 and Russell 52. St. Maries was second with a team total of 176, and Clark Fork 272. Austin Skeen was fourth out of five players shooting a 70.
Only three girls played with Bonners Ferry’s Isabella Orr, who shot a 63 and finished second.
On April 23, the Badgers traveled to the Links course in Post Falls for the Lakeland Invite. There were 14 teams including three 3A schools from the IML. Others included teams that were 4A, 5A and several Spokane, Wash., area schools.
The Badger Varsity boys tied ninth overall. Low round for the Badgers was Reynolds with an 84; Derek Deitz and Moe each shot 91; Dillon Deitz scored a 92; and Russell carded a 105, for a team total of 358.
On April 8, Bonners Ferry played a 9-hole dual match against Kellogg. Boys varsity team won with a team total of 183 to Kellogg’s 188.
Low round from the field went to Reynolds with a 41. Derek and Dillon Deitz each carded 44; Moe had a 54, and Russell shot 59. The only JV player was Skeen with a 72. Orr shot a 76.
“It was nice to beat our rival team,” said coach Chad Deitz. “We only had a few days practice on the course.”
