Girls track team wins Timberlake Invitational, boys take eighth place
Bonners Ferry senior Samantha Hiatt led the girls track team to a first-place victory during the Timberlake Invitational on Friday by winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.46 and taking second in the 300-meter hurdles with 48.88.
Bonners Ferry scored 124 points and was followed by Coeur d’ Alene Charter with 114 points, Timberlake 102, Deer Park 98.5, Freeman 78, Priest River Lamanna 59.5, Newport 52.5, Lakeside 32, Kellogg 16, Wallace 10, St. Maries 7, Clark Fork 3.5, Mullan 3 and Kootenai 1.
The boys track team placed eighth at the invitational with 36 points and was led by Ryan Winebark, who placed first in the high jump with a 6’2’’ leap and sixth in the discus with a throw of 130’3.”
Newport placed first with 132 points followed by Timberlake 130.5, Freeman 103, Coeur d’ Alene Charter 61, Kootenai 53, Priest River Lamanna 45, Kellogg 39.5, Deer Park 26, Wallace 25, St. Maries 23, Mullan 14 and Clark Fork 9.
For the Lady Badgers, senior Melody Braden placed second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:45.5 and in the 3200-meter run with 12:17.55.
Senior Camille Robertson placed first in pole vault, jumping 8’6,’’ and second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.70.
Senior Samantha Kelly placed second in pole vault, jumping 8,’ and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18:51.
Sophomore Erin Hiatt placed third in the 800-meter run and fifth in the long jump with 15’2.’’
Senior Alicia Hedrick placed fourth in the discus, throwing 102’7.5’’ and fifth in the shot put, throwing 33’.5.’’
Sophomore Casey Watt placed third in the discus, throwing 103’10.5.” Freshman Jessica Merz placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 4’8.’’
Bonners Ferry placed second in the 800-spirit medley with a time of 1:59.83. Team members were Erin Hiatt, Emily Pauls, Moriah Jantz and Amy Andrews. The Lady Badgers also took third in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:56.79. Team members were Pauls, Jantz, Mikki Erickson and Olivia Langs.
In boys track news, senior Jordan Stockton placed fourth in the boys long jump, clearing 19’3,’’ fifth in the triple jump, clearing 39’3,’’ and third in the pole vault, jumping 11.’
Sophomore Dylan Sweeney placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.57 and 10th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:06.
The Badgers placed second in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:37.77. Team members were Daniel Aitken, Mark Chrisman, Winebark and Colton Watt.
