20 Badgers qualify for state meet
Twelve Bonners Ferry High School girls and eight Badger boys qualified for the 3A State Track Meet during Friday’s District 1 meet.
They will travel to Boise for the state meet, which opens today, May 22, and continues Friday, May 23.
Sophomore Erin Hiatt and seniors Melody Braden and Samantha Hiatt also led the girls to the 3A District 1 title.
Erin Hiatt won the 800-meter run and long jump; Braden took first in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs and Samantha Hiatt won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Freshman Jessica Merz won the high jump, junior Alicia Hedrick won the discus and senior Camille Robertson won the pole vault.
Also qualifying for the 3A State meet were senior Samantha Kelly in the pole vault and 300-meter hurdles, freshman Amy Andrews in the 800-meter run, sophomore Mikki Erickson in the triple jump; Hedrick in the shot put; freshman Olivia Langs and sophomore Emily Pauls, both in the sprint medley relay, Robertson in the 100-meter hurdles and Casey Watt in discus.
The Badgers scored 144 points at the District meet followed by Timberlake 121, Priest River 77, St. Maries 21. 5, and Kellogg 12.
Senior Jordan Stockton led the Badgers boys with a first in the long jump and second in triple jump.
The Bonners Ferry boys placed fourth with 54.33 points. Eight qualified for the state meet including sophomore Colton Watt in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles; senior Kirt Carey in the shot put; senior Mark Chrisman in the 4X200 relay; freshman Dominic Mah in high jump; Jordan Stockton in the triple jump; pole vault, long jump and 4X200 relay; freshman Taylor Tompke in pole vault; sophomore Ryan Wilson in 4X200 relay; and Ryan Winebark in 4X200 relay and high jump.
Two-time 3A state champion Timberlake won the district title with 147.33. Kellogg finished second with 77.33; Priest River placed third with 64; and St. Maries scored 26.
The top three individuals, plus winning relays, will go to state.
