The thermometers are rising, and so is the Moyie River. People are preparing for flooding and, just in case, have sandbags ready.

Our Hall Mountain volunteer firefighters were busy on the night of May 14. A truck and trailer traveling from Bonners Ferry had a hole in its fuel tank, spilling diesel on the way to Eastport. The truck lost several gallons of fuel in front of the Duty Free America store.

The fire department was called out, and not only worked at cleaning up the spill, but also patched the leak.

On May 10, Rocky MacArthur’s family visited. His daughter, Rochelle MacArthur; her children Cody, 12, and Lissy, 11; and family friend Paul Peksenak toured the area in hopes of moving here. Rochelle is a country and western recording artist and composer, who gave us a signed copy of her new CD “There You Go.”

Christine Gathers and Christopher Bussillos are the proud parents of Brodie Brennan, who was born Tuesday, May 13, one hour after Christine went into labor. Weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces, Brodie is a happy, healthy and perfect baby boy. Just ask Grandma Dee and Grandpa Evan Gathers.

Christine was honored by friends and relatives at a shower.

Austin Crane, son of Scott and Lori Crane, will graduate from Bonners Ferry High School on Saturday, May 31. On Sunday, June 1, he will embark on a new adventure, when he leaves for the Sawtooth Mountains in southern Idaho to work as a packer for High Country Outfitters. This is a perfect job for Austin since he is an accomplished outdoors man, having experience in most areas.

We will miss him since he is a great community member, including as a volunteer firefighter.

Not only is Lori’s youngest leaving the nest on June 1, but it is also her birthday.

Mark your calendars. You do not want to miss the Cowboy Fast Draw Match from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Good Grief Grill. All ages are welcome, and the proper equipment will be available.
