16 Badgers advance to state cross country meet
Bonners Ferry High School Boys and Girls Cross Country teams qualified for the state meet Saturday, Nov. 1, at Boise.
Senior Molly McClintock led the Lady Badgers to a first-place victory at the 3A District 1-2 meet in Bonners Ferry on Friday.
McClintock came in second overall with a time of 22:50, behind Timberlake’s Alex Turbin, who placed first with a time of 22:08. Bonners Ferry won the district title with 28 points. Timberlake took second with 29 points.
“I’m incredibly pleased,” said Bonners Ferry coach Paul Bonnell. “They went beyond themselves. All season long we’ve been talking about the importance of running as a team and for the team. The score reflects the pack running and the significance of every single runner.”
Other girls who qualified were Erin Hiatt, Alicia Burnham, Lorena LaBarbera, Riley Boorman, Amy Elliott, Katy Hiatt and Katie Winebark.
Brian Tucker of Timberlake High School led his team to a first-place victory with a time of 17:38. Timberlake scored 35 points.
Tucker was followed by teammate Ryan Sacksteder, who placed second with a time of 17:57.
Bonners Ferry boy’s team placed second with 48 points.
Bonners Ferry High School junior Dylan Sweeny placed third overall with a time of 18:16.
“I’m astounded,” said Bonnell. “They knew what they had to do coming into this, and they’ve been training for this day all season long. Every workout paid off. They ran for each other.”
Other Badgers advancing were Zach Hammond, Micah Krmpotich, Reid Boorman, Greg Taggart, Robert Lundgren, Quentin Fransoo and Nathan Grow.
Also qualifying for states were Priest River High School runners Jake Tisdell, who came in fourth with a time of 18:31, and Ryan Ewing, who placed fifth with a time of 18:39:05, and Kellogg runners Ty Clinton, who placed sixth with a score of 18:39:90 and Silas Domay, who placed 10th with a time of 19:25.
Timberlake will join Bonners Ferry boys and girls at the state event.
