Bonners Ferry Bandits take on Harlem Ambassadors

| November 3, 2008 8:00 PM

Twenty-two local basketball players will face the globe-trotting Harlem Ambassadors in a game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Boundary County Middle School.

The Bonners Ferry Bandits will include Allen Kuehn, Ron Canida, Brett Brown, JoJo Bahe, Josh Young, Bonner Clark, Jack Douglas, Mark Elliston, Jasmin Robertson, Matt Morgan, Steve Petish, Andy Rice, Brian Poston, Brian Golder, Curt Bayer, Travis Hinthorn, Kris Gravelle and George Hayes.

Brought to town by the Bonners Ferry Masonic Lodge, the highly skilled and experienced Ambassadors are known for performing unbelievable feats with a basketball.

The Ambassadors play what is called “show basketball,” which means the game is intended for entertainment rather than as a contest. Formed in 1998 in Colorado, the Ambassadors have two squads that tour the United States. Each squad plays about 100 games a year.

Organized by Douglas with the help from Brown, Canida and David Brinkman, the Bonners Ferry Bandits have been practicing for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be on the court with highly skilled players.

The show is co-sponsored by Kootenai River Inn and Bonners Ferry Safeway. Volunteers for the event will include members of the Masonic Lodge and several candidates for local offices.

Proceeds will support community activities including Badger Boosters and local Masonic Charitable works.

Advance tickets may be purchased at Under The Sun, Far North Outfitters and Dollar Depot and More in Bonners Ferry. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for children 4 to 18 years old and senior citizens 65 and older, and free for children under 3.
