Huggins this year's Community Star
Margaret Huggins was honored as this year’s Community Star during the Oct. 30 ceremony hosted by Panhandle State Bank at Mugsy’s Restaurant.
“I’ve done a lot of different things and I appreciate this,” said Huggins, who is coordinator for the Boundary County Youth Crisis and Domestic Violence Hotline. “A lot of the people here have done huge things for the crisis line.”
As part of the honor, the bank gives $1,000 to the recipient’s charity of choice. Huggins chose the crisis line.
All of Panhandle State Bank’s branches honor a Community Star annually. This is the fifth time it’s been done in Bonners Ferry.
“It recognize the people that provide a lot for the community,” said Dave Walter, vice president and manager of PSB in Bonners Ferry.
Every year the public nominates candidates and a committee from the bank chooses the recipent. Huggins was nominated by friend Anne Bonar.
“Margaret and I have been friends for many years,” said Bonar. “She is the perfect person to nominate. Margaret gives so much for this community. She is there for everyone. She doesn’t receive enough praise for what she does.”
Past recipients have included Darrell Kerby, Debbie Musial, Gil Hagen and Judy Everhart.
“Margaret, you need to take the accolade because you obviously deserve it,” said Kerby. “The community is a better place because of you.”
