Bonners Ferry wins tourney, defeats Mullan, Kellogg
Bonners Ferry High School Girls Basketball team won the Silver Valley Tournament this weekend, defeating Mullan 73-6 on Friday and Kellogg 55-22 on Saturday.
Junior Mikki Erickson scored 16 points against Mullan.
“Junior Mikki Erickson came off the bench and was on fire,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “She had 16 points and 6 steals.”
Senior Caitlin Clausen led the Badgers with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Hailey Payne followed with 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
“Against Mullan, everyboday played well,” Hinthorn said. “Nine out of 10 girls scored.”
Against Kellogg, Bonners Ferry jumped out to a 6-4 lead early on. The Badgers held Kellogg scoreless throughout the remainder of the period on the way to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter.
Kellogg got to within 11 points of Bonners Ferry in the second quarter on a pair of free-throws from Chelsea Morgan and a three-point basket from Ryder Ashcraft to make it 22-11 before the Lady Badgers closed out the quarter on a 9-2 run to lead 31-13 at the half.
“Against Kellogg, we made a great run in the second half with our defense, once we started pressuring the ball,” said Hinthorn. “We made a good run in the middle of the second quarter.”
Bonners Ferry closed out the contest on a 22-9 run for the final score and the tournament title.
Payne led with 11 rebounds and 1 assist. Alicia Hedrick followed with 9 rebounds and 2 assists.
“Alicia Hedrick shot the ball very well and once again it was a team effort,” Hinthorn said.
