Girls soccer headed to state tourney, Lindberg top coach
Brianna Watt scored four goals to lead Bonners Ferry to a 5-1 victory over the Timberlake Tigers.
The win earned the Lady Badgers the district title and a spot at the state tournament from Thursday, Oct. 23, to Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Boise Capital Soccer Complex in Meridian.
In a related matter, Coach John Lindberg was voted the Intermountain League’s Coach of the Year during the 3A District tournament in Post Falls.
“John did a great job, saying that his team he had at the district games wasn’t the same team he had all along,” said athletic director Ted Reynolds. “There were some players that became academically ineligible for the last couple games. Hard work paid off where it counted. The way he treats the kids is extremely fair.”
Bonners Ferry High School girls soccer players Kendra Johnson, Briana Watt and Rachel Pruitt were chosen to play for the first All League team.
Johnson, in this season, has scored 33 goals and assisted on 10. Watt has tallied 19 goals and 11 assists.
“Pruitt provided tremendous leadership and soccer skills as the league’s outstanding defensive back,” Lindberg said.
The teams’ 2008 record stands at 9-2 with 1 tie in the league and 10-7-1 overall.
Timberlake opened the game at the 8th minute mark, but Watt tied the game one minute later. From then on the Badgers pumped in the unanswered goals.
