O'Connor endorsed for county commissioner

| October 23, 2008 9:00 PM

We' would like to endorse John O'Connor as county commissioner.

In the eyes of some people, John has been thought of as a 'tree huggin' environmentalist,' but we would like to dispel that myth.

We have had the pleasure of getting to know John, sat in meetings with him over the years, and learned that he has a very conservative attitude toward Boundary County.

John has lived here and owned a business downtown for many years; he clearly knows what supports this community economically, as well as the reasons people choose to live here.

John is for farming, logging and other resource-based industries in our area that are done responsibly. He has a progressive attitude that will preserve this small community as well as help it to grow in a manner that fits and sustains our way of life.

We cannot survive with the good ol' boy mentality. It just does not work anymore.

We have to have a vision for Bonners Ferry that will welcome 'newcomers' and keep the 'natives' happy. Our community has grown, and will continue to grow, and we have to be in charge of the growth.

We need some fresh ideas that will invite industry to come to our area ' any tourism should be looked upon as a bonus and not a mainstay.

We believe John O'Connor will help to lead us in that direction. John is a moderate, middle-of-the-road type of guy, not the extremist on either side.

We encourage the citizens of Boundary County to visit John's cozy book store, in which he can usually gain access to any book at your request.

Please take some time to get to know John O'Conner.
