Girls soccer team loses 4-3 to Orofino
Junior Kendra Johnson scored two goals for Bonners Ferry, which fell 4-3 to Orofino in the final minutes of Saturday’s soccer game.
The Lady Badgers led 2-0 at the end of the first half, but gave up four goals to the Maniacs in the second half.
A shortage of substitutes for Bonners Ferry made for a tough game, said Badger head coach John Lindberg.
“We had only two substitutes, which hurt us,” Lindberg said. “Most players played the 80 straight minutes.”
Some team members left town for the Labor Day Weekend, while others are working on eligibility issues, including academics, he said.
Junior Badger Allison Dudis scored first in the game, with a goal 15 minutes into the game. Johnson scored 36 minutes into the game.
In the second half, Orofino’s Katie Nemeth scored at the 56th minute and Johnson returned a score in the 61st minute. Orofino scored the final two goals in the last 8 minutes of the game. The final score came with two minutes remaining.
“I appreciated the effort the majority of the players gave,” Lindberg said. “With Orofino, you have to give them a part on the back for coming back with four second-half goals.”
“We had a number of good players that gave it their all,” he continued. “(The number of) shots-on-play and keeper saves were almost identical.”
