| September 4, 2008 9:00 PM

Junior Lady Badger Erin Hiatt took third overall during Bonners Ferry Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Stampede Lake inNaples.

Hiatt’s 23:10 run coupled with seniors Molly McClintock taking fourth overall in 23:56 and Riley Boorman finishing seventh in 25:27 led to Bonners’ second-place win.

As for the boys, junior Dylan Sweeney took first for the Badgers, with a third overall finish at 19:00. On Sweeney’s heels was freshman Jimmy Matthews with a 19:02 run. The boys’ team took second overall.

“I was really pleased by the efforts and performances of all the Bonners Ferry runners, particularly since we have such a young team overall,” said coach Paul Bonnell. “Everyone ran tenaciously and showed solid success, a tribute to the training they have put in during the last two weeks and also the summer.”

“I applaud the returning runners too because they all posted significant improvements over last year’s times,” Bonnell continued. “ I’m very pleased with the second place finishes by both boys and girls, and I’m eager to see how we fare the remainder of the season. It was an excellent season opening.”

Ryan Sacksteder from Timberlake led the pack of 53 boys to win the race in 18:22.

Megan Bartlett from Sandpoint won for the girls with a time of 21:50.
