Local contractor cuts log home in half to move across lake

David Winn and Robert Smith never thought they would get paid for cutting a home in half.
Then the owners of PFC Construction in Bonners Ferry were hired to move Duane Hagadone’s home from his property in Coeur d’ Alene and across the CDA lake for a new owner.
“We were excited, it was something new,” said Winn. “You don’t always get to cut a house in half and then put it back together.”
The pair cut the 5,000-square-foot log home in half so it would fit on a boat to be taken 1 1/2 miles across the lake, where new owner Kootenai County Sheriff, Rocky Watson, had it relocated onto his property.
“It wasn’t bad at all,” said Winn. “We just used a chain saw for everything. It was kind of fun actually.”
“Putting it back together wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be either,” Smith added.
It only took three hours to cut in a half and two more weeks to put the home back together after moving the home to the new location.
“You won’t be able to tell it was cut in half,” said Smith.
They got the job from Caribou Creek Homes, who didn’t have the time to do it.
“A customer of theirs was a friend who bought the house from Hagadone,” said Winn. “We would be happy to saw someone else’s house in half again.”
