Split in GOP questioned

| September 12, 2008 9:00 PM

As an amateur political observer, I was wondering if it was a good idea to split up the Republican party into two groups just before the elections.

Many of the more conservative Republicans are supporting Ron Paul and many of the more moderate Republicans are supporting John McCain.

Unless the two sides reconcile their differences and unite before the final elections, there will be two minority parties on the Republican side and a majority party on the Democratic side.

One of the great strengths of our government has been our bipartisanship. If things do not work out, well we will have one party dominating the political scene for a long time. This happened in Sweden in the past when one party was in power for 40 years.

One remotely possible solution would have been for John McCain to choose Ron Paul as his vice-presidential running mate.
