Commissioner candidate clears misconceptions about views on public lands

| September 18, 2008 9:00 PM

I would like to help clear misconceptions about my views on the use of public lands.

I would like to see the recovery of our local timber economy. I am fully in favor of the active management of the largest share of our public lands. I believe this can be done in a responsible manner that our local timber workers are the people to do it, and that exciting new possibilities may soon arise in this sector.

Public input is a part of public lands management, and I stand by my participation in this. The record would show that I have never been involved in stopping a timber sale. I have been a dedicated, constructive part of a public input process that has refined lands management. This has on occasion slowed the process, but mostly with a better outcome.

I am in favor of greater responsible recreational access to public lands within the law.

The record will back me on these statements. Rumors to the contrary cannot be substantiated. I am happy to discuss this with anyone.

Cast your vote for the actual candidate in November, not the product of hearsay and gossip.

John O'Connor

Candidate
