Lady Badgers on a roll, 4-1 in Intermountain League
Bonners Ferry High School girls soccer team has won four of its last six games, including Intermountain League victories over Class 3A Priest River, Kellogg, St. Maries and Timberlake.
“Quite the record for this new season and we’re doing it with 14 players,” said head coach John Lindberg.
The Lady Badgers are 4-1 in league play and will host St. Maries at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, and travel to Priest River for a 4:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
As for recent action, the girls on Sept. 8 lost 5-2 to Lakeland. Brianna Watt and Kendra Johnson each scored for the Lady Badgers.
On Sept. 11, the Lady Badgers defeated Priest River 8-0. Johnson scored a team-high 4 goals. Emily Pauls added 2 along with Watt’s 2 goals. Assists totals were Pauls 2, Amy Andrews 2, Jessica West 1, Johnson 1, Watt 1 and Amanda Riley 1.
One day later, the Badgers defeated Kellogg 7-0. Johnson scored 5 of the team’s 7 goals during the home match. Pauls and Watt scored 1 goal apiece. Game goal assists were from Pauls with 2 and Watt with 2.
Watt led the Badgers with two goals to a 3-0 victory over St. Maries on Saturday. Johnson finished the game with a single goal. Assists went to Pauls 2 and Johnson 1.
The Lady Badgers returned to action on Monday, with a 7-2 win over Timberlake.
Andrews scored the team’s first goal at the 20th minute on an assist by Johnson. Johnson followed with a goal at the 27th minute on an assist from Andrews.
Timberlake scored at the 35th minute, making the game 2-1 in favor of Bonners Ferry.
“The second half featured an upturn of energy and effort by the Badgers as they scored at minutes 48, 50, 63, 68 and 76,” Lindberg said.
Girls who scored were Johnson on an assist from Pauls, Watt with a 35-yard tally and Pauls on an assist from Andrews. Watt added another point on an assist from Hailey Pruitt and Johnson added the final point on an assist from Andrews.
The Lady Badgers had 12 shots-on-goal to Timberlake’s 6.
“Sam Schmitz has only allowed a total of 2 goals in the final four contests,” Lindberg said. “(We’ve seen) superb play from the entire team.”
