Badgers Shut Out Lumberjacks
For the second consecutive Saturday, the Bonners Ferry Boys Soccer Team shut out St. Maries, this time by a 4–0 score at home, raising its league record to 3–0 and overall record to 7–4.
The Badgers scored twice in each half, led by senior Miguel Mendez’s hat trick and assist on the fourth goal scored by senior Jody Wilkerson.
Freshman midfielder Hayden Wakkinen assisted on Mendez’s first goal in the 25th minute, with sophomore midfielder Alex Mendez providing the second assist on a goal just before halftime. Miguel Mendez’s third goal came just after the half on an assist from Wilkerson.
“The Badgers once again dominated the action from the start, limiting the Lumberjacks to only three shots on goal,” said assistant coach Ed Moe.
Sandpoint visited Sept. 18, and left town with its second 4–0 win over the Badgers this season.
“The Bulldogs used superior speed and ball handling to control much of the game, holding the hard-working Badgers to very few scoring opportunites,” said Moe.
The Badger Boys visited Stillwater Christian in Kalispell on Sept. 16 and came away with a 3- 0 victory over the Cougars.
Bonners had numerous chances to score in the first half, but came away empty, resulting in a scoreless tie at the half.
Senior defender John Wakkinen tallied his second goal of the season to open the scoring in the 44th minute off an assist from freshman Andre Zarate.
Zarate then made it 2–0 in the 57th minute with Alex Mendez assisting. Finally Miguel Mendez provided a beautiful crossing pass in the 74th minute, which freshman Daniel Palacios converted to complete the scoring.
The Badgers outshot the Cougars 13 – 3.
