Badgers defeat Wallace, lose to Moscow, Timberlake

The 4A power Moscow Bears came to Bonners Ferry Friday and Saturday, and came away with three wins and the champion trophy for this year’s Badger Baseball Tournament.

Moscow beat Wallace 14-0, no-hit Timberlake 9 -0 and beat the host Badgers 14-2. Bonners Ferry started the tournament with a 19-2 win over 1A Wallace Miners. Badger pitcher Zach Maas threw three strong innings with senior Casey Nelson finishing the game.

Bonners Ferry collected 13 hits with Nelson going 3-for-3 and Zack Roberts, Maas and Alek Lopez each collecting 2 hits. Maas had a double and triple in the game.

Bonners Ferry then lost to Moscow 14-2. Badger pitching and fielding could not hold up against Moscow as eight Bears were walked and the Badger committed five errors.

Moscow struck early getting 2 runs in the first and 3 runs in the next two innings. Greg Taggart and Zack Roberts struggled at the plate giving up 8 walks and 1 hit batter.  

Bonners Ferry also lost 11-3 to Timberlake. The Badgers continued to struggle with pitching, walking 13 Tiger batters and hitting 3. The game was called at the fifth inning due to time limit.

Aaron Hoisington and Roberts each collected 2 hits in the game.

Roberts finished the weekend going 5-for with 4 runs and 4 RBIs while Hoisington and Nelson went 3-for-5.  

The Badgers (2-4) will play Lake City junior varsity Monday, April 6, in Coeur d’Alene and host Post Falls junior varsity at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 9.
