Farmer's Market talks to officials about expanding
Bonners Ferry Farmer’s Market opens on Saturday, April 25, in the City Parking Lot next to Bonners Ferry Visitors Center.
Vendor Sora Huff told Bonners Ferry City Council on Tuesday she would like to expand the market to Bonner Street. Huff said at a recent spring vendors’ meeting, 65 people attended. In recent years about 15 to 20 attended.
“We have never had to turn vendors away, but this may be an issue this year and more room may be needed to accommodate them,” she said.
Huff also asked for access to electricity so musicians can perform at the Farmer’s Market.
City council approved the use of the city parking lot. Mayor Dave Anderson told Huff they would discuss and solve problems as they come up and asked her to keep the council informed as the process goes forward. That way a decision about expanding the market could be made at a later date.
“Our biggest goal is to bring in more produce people,” said Huff.
“I’d be happy to lend support to the Farmer’s Market,” said Councilman John Langs. “I think it is a huge asset to this community and that we should go out of our way to support the Farmer’s Market.”
“I do agree that it serves a great purpose to our community, and it gives people a chance to participate and get together on Saturdays,” added council president David Gray. “We appreciate all you do for the city and county. You do a wonderful service to mankind in this community.”
