Man who ran over mother sentenced
A Naples man who ran over his mother while driving drunk was sentenced March 31.
Thomas Burney, 47, pled guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving in a plea agreement with the state.
Under the terms of the plea agreement, Burney will pay $300 in fines, serve two days in jail with time served, be placed on two years unsupervised probation and have his driver’s license suspended for 90 days.
On the evening of Dec. 27 Thomas Burney ran over his mother Sharon Burney, 66, after she slipped in her driveway. She suffered serious injuries to her legs, torso and head.
Police initially charged Burney with felony aggravated drunken driving and committed him to Boundary County Jail and was released after two days. He also was charged with driving without insurance which was later dismissed, according to court records.
