Over 70 teams expected for Swish

Tipoff for Bonners Ferry Swish 2009,  is 8 a.m.  Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9.

According to organizer Brett Brown, the second annual three-on-three basketball tournament will be bigger than last year. 

“We have a lot of people coming from Coeur d’ Alene, Spirit Lake, St. Maries, Spokane, Paulson and Canada this year, a lot more out of towners than last year,” Brown said.  We are expecting at least five or six teams to sign up last minute.”

“There are 70 teams and counting, 86 volunteers and we can always use more, I would never turn anyone away willing to help,” said Brown.

Adults can sign up for free throwing and three-point shooting contests  the winners will get a $100 prize.  There also will prizes for school-aged children who enter these contests.

Disc Jockey music will be provided by Dan Young of Sandpoint  both days.  Food vendors and a jumping castle for the youngsters will be set up.

Primary sponsors for Swish are Three Mile Cafe, Zips, Bonners Ferry Eagles, Bonners Ferry Rotary, Bonners Ferry Chamber of Commerce, Community Title and Boundary Abstract.

Proceeds will help buy playground equipment and basketball hoops in the caged area at Boundary County Fairgrounds.  The Swish committee hopes to raise $4,000.
