Douglas Sherman White

Douglas Sherman White died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, in Boundary Community Extended Care Facility.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Doug was born Dec. 10, 1931, in Oronogo, Mo., to Edmond and Rachel Edwards White.

Doug's family moved to Boundary County in 1935, settling in the Moyie Springs area. He went to Buckhorn School and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1950.

Doug married the formrer Violet Deselms on Oct. 16, 1950, in Moyie Springs. Their children were Pamela, Sandra and Loren “Doug” White.

Doug and Violet were divorced in 1965.

Doug worked as carpenter and joined Moyie River Lumber Co. in 1951, where he retired from in 1981, after 30 years.

He married Colleen Crawford on March 18, 1967, in Sandpoint. They were married for 33 years when she passed away in 2000.

Doug was an avid outdoorsman, who liked hunting and fishing with his longtime friend, Ole Lethrud.

Doug was a longtime union member and member of the Eagles.

He loved going to Sater’s Auction, rarely missing a week in years.

Doug spent hours building up an extensive collection of model railroads. He enjoyed working with wood, building his home and furnishings.

Doug also loved yard and garden work, Christmas lights and talking with neighbors. Anyone who went past his home will remember his multitude of whirligigs and lawn ornaments.

Doug also was preceeded in death by his parents, stepfather Lloyd Hughes and sister Fern Carmack.

Doug is survived by a brother Hobert White of Colorado Springs, Colo., a sister Maxine Kucera (Leonard) of Moyie Springs, daughters Pam Reoch (Douglas) of Moyie Springs and Sandra Wilder (Richard) of Bonners Ferry; son Loren “Doug” White of Moyie Springs; stepdaughter Nancy Rosco (Vern); stepson Rick Crawford; grandchildren Barbara Hittle (Spencer), Tanya Morgan (Matt), Jeff Wilder, Denny Cushman, Aaron Wilder, and Russel, Lynn, Gail, Gary and Tom Rosco; and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
