Raymond L. (Pop) Petersen

Raymond L. (Pop) Petersen, 90, passed away early Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at his home.

Pop was born May 24, 1919.

He retired from the U.S. Marines in 1963, after 25 five years of service. During his time, Pop was at Pearl Harbor the day Japan attached and he served throughout the South Pacific during World War II. Pop continued his service on into the Korean Conflict.

He retired as an E-9 just as his second oldest son was entering the Marines at the start of the Vietnam War.

During Pop’s retirement he loved fishing and coaching Little and Pony league baseball.

Pop will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by children Kraig, Jerre, Malinda and Jim; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.
