Charles “Chuck” Boyce, 86

Charles “Chuck” Boyce, 86, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Good Samaritan Village in Silverton.

Chuck was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Arnold, Neb., to Terry and Essie May Boyce. Chuck was the oldest of five siblings and attended schools in Tyron and North Platte, Neb.

Chuck was drafted in April 1943 and was honorable discharged in June of 1946. He in the 50th Armored Infantry Battalion and served in the Battle of the Bulge and The Battle of the Rhineland Central.

Chuck served for a sort while under Gen. George Patton. While in the service, he received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Medal, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and rifle sharp shooter and special vehicle operator medals.

After the military, Chuck was a logger for a short time before becoming a journeyman lineman. He worked all over the Northwest including many years with the electric department for the City of Bonners Ferry. Chuck retired from Citizens Utilities Co. of Wallace in 1984.

In 1947, Chuck married Florence Spiering Carey. They had children Terry, James, Gayle, Curtis and Cathy. They later divorced.

In 1991, Chuck married Wava Beehner in Pioche, Nev. They lied in Mesquite, Nev., until 2004. They became campground hosts at Devil’s Elbow on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River from 1997-2008. They moved to Pinehurst in 2004.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, sons James and Curtis, daughter Terry, grandsons Daniel Eby and Dale Diller and brothers Harold and Leroy.

Chuck is survived by wife in Pinehurst; daughters Gayle (Don) Alexander of Bonners Ferry and Cathy (Robert) Wells of Moyie Springs; stepsons Donald (Trudy) Beehner of PInehurst and Matt (Minde) Beehner of Wallace; stepdaughters Barbara (Mike) Kane of Boise and Nora Stevens of Rose Lake; a sister, Rose Eviston of Hershey, Neb.; grandchildren Bob Diller Jr.  of Okanogan, Wash., Joe (Stephanie) Wells of Rathdrum, Leans (James) Knott of Coeur  d’Alene, Steve Stevens of Bellingham, Wash., Morgan Stevens of Rose Lake, Jessica (Lewis) Watkins of Hayden, Patty (Rob) Heinberg of Boise, David Hopkins of Coeur d’Alene, Annette (D.J.) Weiss of Boise, Heather Beehner of Wallace, and Felicia and Jordan Beehner of Page; great-grandchildren Steven and Michael Diller, Lauren Belstad and Michelle Stevens

Chuck loved them all and will be greatly missed. We love you, Grandpa.

Neptune Society handled cremation arrangements. Memorial services were held on Nov. 22 at Chapel of the Good Samaritan Village in conjunction with its Sunday service.
