Five-foot-11 junior Mat Evans led Bonners Ferry in scoring with 26 points during the Badgers’ 64-56 loss to Chewelah on Saturday.

Senior Alex Kellogg added 18 for the Badgers, who are 2-1 for the season.

“We just didn't play well. We were in early foul trouble which we never recovered from,” said Bonners Ferry coach Gordon Allured. “Add that to 19 turnovers, 9 steals by Chewelah and us with a total of 28 fouls resulting in 39 foul shots by Chewelah. We cannot win basketball games with that type of performance."

For Chewelah, Josh Christian scored 6 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter, going 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
