The Bonners Ferry Girls High School girls basketball team lost  59-52 in Newport Tuesday.

Newport jumped ahead to a 9-0 lead .

“Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers,” said Coach Travis Hinthorn. “We need to take care of the ball and help ourselves out.”

Junior Jessica Merz had her best game of the year according to Hinthorn coming off the bench with 9 points and 5 rebounds.

On Saturday the Lady Badgers beat Chewelah 62-33.

Junior Markayle Acord led with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

“Emily Pauls played a great game,” said Hinthorn.  “Chewelah played full court man press the entire game and Emily had only one turnover and six assists.”  “She did a great job handling the pressure.”

Hinthorn said he even though the Lady Badgers won easily, he was happy with how the girls played and that they want to continue to improve.

The Lady Badgers junior varsity beat Chewelah 89-15 with all players scoring.

“It was a slow start but after an early time-out it was the balanced Lady Badger junior varsity team who was too much for the Chewelah JV team,” said Hinthorn.

The Lady Badgers junior varsity at Newport won 56-17 and again all players scored.

The scoring was led by freshman Ally Merrifield who had 13 points as Bonners Ferry pulled away from Newport 23-2 in the second quarter.
