Jan Christenson, 55

Retired U.S. Air Force Major Jan Christenson, 55, of Bonners Ferry returned to the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Coeur d’Alene.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at Crossroads Chapel in Bonners Ferry with Pastor Gayle Morman officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery in Superior, Wis.

Jan was born Dec.19, 1953, to Eric and Betty Christenson in Quonset Point, R.I.

Jan grew up and attended schools in Sunnyvale, Calif., and graduated high school in Bonners Ferry.  He graduated with a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Chapman University.

Jan enlisted in the Air Force in 1972 and was stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho, where he met Laurie McGraw. They married on June 22, 1974, in Superior.

They traveled the country during Jan’s career; he received his officer commission in 1980, and later settled in Las Vegas. Jan retired from the Air Force in 1995 and moved to Bonners Ferry in 2003.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding and restoring vintage vehicles. He was a president of the board of North Bench Fire District and a member of Boundary County Planning and Zoning Committee.

Jan is survived by his wife in Bonners Ferry; sons Jan (Amy) Christenson of Superior and Jeremy (Brandie) Christenson of Mountain Home; granddaughter Abigail; his parents of Bonners Ferry; and a brother Eric (Marylyn) Christenson of Hayden.
