Senior Companion Program a blessing

| December 10, 2009 8:00 PM

As a senior citizen who can no longer drive, and who's mobility is limited, I needed someone to take me to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, run errands, etc.

I felt like I was imposing upon family and friends and often hesitated to call upon them. And then a long came the Senior Companion Program, which is a non- profit program that helps homebound and disabled seniors live a more active and productive life style.

They help these seniors to make doctor appointments, grocery shopping, errands, etc., and offer companionship that is uplifting and encouraging in so many different ways. Since being a part of the Senior Companion Program, I’ve had one of the best years in which I have been able to go places, attend meeting and events, make appointments and have a wonderful senior companion in Pat Olson, who has also become a good friend.

I know there are other seniors who need the help and companionship this program offers.

I know I have gained so much from this program. Getting out of the house and being around other seniors makes a big difference in an elderly person’s life.

So if you can spare a few hours a month and perhaps receive a stipend, contact Larry Hare , Boundary County Coordinator, at Panhandle Health, 267-5558.

It will make life so much better for the elderly in our community.
