Five-foot-11 junior Mat Evans scored 10 points to lead the Badgers in their 45-33 loss to Moscow on Saturday.

“Playing in Moscow is always tough, with the long drive and having to sit through two games before playing,” said Badger coach Gordon Allured. “Add that to having to play against a very good fundamental basketball team makes it even more difficult.”

Bonners Ferry fell behind 16-3 in the first quarter.

“But the kids battled back and never gave up and outscored the Bears by 1 point for the rest of the game,” Allured said. “I was really proud of the kids. It would have been easy to not put out the effort, being a non league game.”

“Our defense kept us in the game (again) especially from the kids coming off the bench,” he continued. “We are going to be very good team when we put the pieces together and become overall more consistent. I am really proud of the entire team's effort."

Senior Alex Kellogg scored 7 for the Badgers and junior Aaron Moe added 6.

In other action, Kellogg scored 12 points to lead Bonners Ferry to a 45-44 win over Newport.

“We were lucky to get away with a win at Newport,” Allured said. “When you only shoot 24 percent (16 for 66) against a good basketball team, it is always tough.”

Our defense has been keeping us in contention,” he continued. “We still need to get better in a few areas to be successful. The kids have been working hard in practice though so we hope to see some improvement in our offense.”

Senior Carey Reynolds scored 11 points and Evans added 10.
