Shannon Marie Snyder

| December 31, 2009 8:00 PM

Shannon Marie Snyder, 59, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, after a courageous nine-year battle with breast caner.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Free Methodist Church in Bonners Ferry with interment at Grandview Cemetery, Bonners Ferry. A dinner and celebration of life will follow the service at the Eagles Hall in Bonners Ferry.

Shannon was born March 29, 1950, in Wallace to Dick and Dorothy Riekena. The family moved to Bonners Ferry in 1951, where she was joined by two brothers.

Shannon graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1968.

She married Harold Allenberg Jr. on Sept. 27, 1969. They had a daughter, Audrey Jean.

Shannon worked for Nixon and Nixon Law, Louisiana Pacific Mill and Riverside Auto Center before settling in at General Feed and Grain. She loved her job and the people she worked with there.

Shannon was a kind and caring person, often making birthday cakes for fellow employees.  It was a rare day that she didn’t greet all with a smile and a kind word.

In 1998 Shannon met and fell in love with Stanley E. Snyder; they married March 10, 2000, in the Bahamas.

Shannon loved her job, and in her free time, enjoyed boat rides on Lake Pend Oreille with Stan and an occasional ride in her red convertible Mazda Miata. But most of all she loved quiet moments, sitting by the fire with her husband or riding with him in their dump truck.

Shannon loved her daughter and step-children Stacey and Stan and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Shannon also was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 3522 in Bonners Ferry and an important part of the women’s cancer support group.

When her cancer again raised its ugly head, with her usual determination, she embarked on treatment again never complaining, accepting what she needed to do with courage and a smile on her face. She was an inspiration to all and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shannon is survived by her husband; daughter Audrey Jean Telford-Unruh; brothers Rick Riekena and his wife, Deloris, and family and Kim Riekena and his wife, Linda, and family, all of Bonners Ferry; Janet and Rudy Krogseth and family of Liberty Lake. Wash.; step-children Stacey Siver and her husband, Sam, and Stan Snyder; grandchildren Colton Brian Telford, Dylan Michael Unruh and Kinzie Marie Unruh; step-grandchildren Hattie, Shawna and  Brady Siver; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Local Woman’s Cancer Support Group, Breast Cancer Research Susan B. Komen and Hospice.
