Badgers defeat Orofino in playoff game
Bonners Ferry senior Aaron Hoisington scored 13 points to help the Badgers win their first District 1 game 57-40 over Orofino on Tuesday night.
“All year we have been saying ‘it’s all about districts,’ and the kids came out and played one of — if not the best — game of the season,” said coach Gordon Allured. “Tomorrow we will need a repeat performance against a very, very good Priest River team.”
The Badgers, who placed fifth in the Intermountain League with a 3-7 league record and 5-13 overall, were scheduled to play Priest River on Wednesday night.
The game was not over as of press time.
For Priest River, it will be their first game.
The Spartans were this year’s Intermountain League champions and went 10-0 in league play. Priest River is 16-1 overall.
As for Tuesday night’s Bonners Ferry game, Dillon Deitz scored 9 points, Colton Telford added 8 and Miguel Mendez and Jacob Parker scored 7 apiece.
The Badgers opened the first quarter with a 16-4 lead and led 28-17 at the half. The Badgers outscored Orofino 11-10 and 18-13 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
In other regular season action, The Badgers lost 51-46 to Orofino. Mendez led with 14 points and Deitz and Hoisington each added 9.
The Badgers also lost to St. Maries 61-54. Hoisington scored 14 points and Mendez added 13.
