Bonners Ferry High School girls basketball team finished the season Friday after losing two close games at the state tournament in Nampa.

The girls lost to Wendell 44-38 and to Kimberly 53-59. The girls finished the season 15-7 and 8-2 in the Intermountain League. The Lady Badgers won the District 1 3A title to advance to the state tournament.

“Overall, we had a great trip,” said coach Travis Hinthorn. “It would’ve been nice to win a game, but we had two close games. The girls are a great group. We need to remember we still had a successful year.”

Senior Ashley Winkelseth led the Lady Badgers against Wendell with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Alicia Hedrick added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.

“Hallie Payne did an outstanding job on defense for us,” Hinthorn said.

The Badgers led 9-8 after the first quarter, but fell 19-14 at the half. The Lady Trojans outscored Bonners 13-7 in the third, but Bonners outscored Wendell 17-12 in the fourth.

Against Kimberly, Winkelseth led with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Markayle Accord added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 2 steals.
