Bonners Ferry Junior Miss contestants named

Fourteen Bonners Ferry High School junior girls will participate in the 43rd Annual Bonners Ferry Junior Miss Program.

Girls vying for scholarships and prizes on Saturday, April 18, will include Katie Enns, Tiffany Worley, Emily Pauls, Casey Watt, Katie Pluid, Abrianna Funkhauser, Chloe Cavender, Calli Solomon, Amy Cederquist, Tana Schnieder, Mikki Erickson, Erin Hiatt, Eden Rice and Bettyjean Poston.

Contestants will participate in a tribute to Mo Town’s 50th anniversary with the theme of “Talkin’ ‘Bout My Girls.”

Started in 1966, the Bonners Ferry Junior Miss program is considered one of the best in the state and has received national recognition. Last year, scholarships and prizes valued at $12,000 were awarded.

Contestants compete in scholastics, interview, talent, fitness and self-expression. Scholarships are awarded to winners of each of the five categories, finalists and Junior Miss.

The Bonners Ferry Junior Miss Scholarship program receives funding through local donations. Without them, the program would not exist. Throughout the next eight weeks, volunteers will be contacting local businesses and community members for their support.

The national sponsors of America’s Junior Miss include The Mitchell Company, Alabama Power, Encore Rehabilitation, Inc., and Wintzell’s Oyster House. National category sponsors include Mobile Gas and Regions Bank. Governmental support is furnished by the City of Mobile, Mobile County, and the State of Alabama, with special support from the Mobile Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The 2009 America’s Junior Miss National Finals will be held in June 2009.
