Swisher wins both matches in CDA

Bonners Ferry senior Dayne Swisher won both of his matches during Saturday’s tournament with St. Maries and Coeur d’Alene.

The Badgers defeated St. Maries 40-39 and lost to Coeur d’Alene 53-18.

One of Swisher’s victories included pinning Colin Comack from Coeur d’Alene in 3:46. Other Badger pins came from sophomore veteran wrestler David Willems over Thomas Tucker of St. Maries in 5:03. Newcomer Beau Cowley pinned Jared Raynor of St. Maries in 3:49 in the 285-pound class.

Badger coach Conrad Garner was pleased, considering the boys hadn’t wrestled since Dec. 13.

Swisher, last year’s 140-pound state champion, wrestled at 145.

“We just made some adjustments because kids were on Christmas vacations so we moved some around to fill the weight classes,” Garner said.

Other highlights included victories by Badger sophomore Reid Boorman at 119 with a fall in 5:32 over R. Flowers from St. Maries. Sophomore Benny Watt in 125-pound class won with a fall in 3:49 over R. Cordle of St. Maries.

The Badgers at 5:30 p.m. today, Jan. 8, will host Priest River.
