Bonners Ferry wrestlers place at Missoula tournament

Bonners Ferry senior Dayne Swisher lost in the semi-finals to Bozeman’s Michael Carpenter during the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula, Mont.

Carpenter defeated Swisher in an 8-4 decision in the 140-pound class. Carpenter then went on to defeat Brad Nordahl of Frenchtown for the title.

In the end, Swisher finished in sixth. He suffered a minor shoulder injury while wrestling  and had to forfeit.

Other Badgers to place were sophomores Benny Watt in the 119-pound class and Trevor Hampton in 135.

Watt won by forfeit over Travis Lang of Bozeman and took fifth in his weight class.

Hampton finished fifth after he was pinned by Brandon Riehle of Ferris in 57 seconds.

The Kalispell Flathead Braves from Montana won the tournament for a fourth year in a row. The Braves racked up 269 points.  Bonners Ferry placed 21st out of 28 schools. The Badgers scored 49 points, finishing after West Valley with 55 and ahead of Lake City with 43.

Other team scores include Havre 246, University High 155, Central Valley 146.5, Bozeman 137.5, Coeur d’Alene High 136, Mead 133, Great Falls High 126, Kalispell Glacier 124, Ronan 103, Missoula Sentinel 101, Great Falls C.M. Russell 96.5, Frenchtown 83, Clarkston 81.5, Polson 77, Ferris  73, Libby 72, Corvallis 69.5, Hamilton 56, Columbia Falls 39, Butte 33, Missoula Big Sky 24, Missoula Hellgate 20.5, Superior 13.5 and Whitefish 9.

The Badgers will host Lakeland and Kellogg at 5 p.m. today, Jan. 22. They will travel to Lewiston on Friday and Saturday for a tournament.
