Clara G. Hewett, 92

Clara G. Hewett, 92, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2008, at the Hewett House in Bonners Ferry.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Private interment was in Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Clara was born April 24, 1916, in the Curley Creek community near Moyie Springs to Milton A. and Katharine E. Peck. The Peck family included a son, Mervin D. Peck.

They lived a rural life in a small log house and worked long days. Clara attended Curley Creek School, Bonners Ferry High School, Lewiston State Normal School and University of Idaho in Moscow.

She spent 40 years as an elementary teacher in Boundary County and at Buckhorn, Cow Creek, Sheridan, Southside, Valley View, North Side and Evergreen schools.

Clara married Robert “Bob” W. Hewett on June 27, 1947. They lived for many years on the Curley Creek farm where Clara was raised.

Clara retired in 1976, and she and Bob moved to Bonners Ferry in 1991.

They kept busy with community projects, their church, traveling and playing pinochle at Curley Creek Community Hall and the Senior Center in Bonners Ferry. 

Survivors include nieces Sue O’Neill and her husband, Phil, of Troy, Mont., and Shirley Allenton and her husband, Don, of Colville, Wash.; nephew Ed Hewett and his wife, Ann, of Abilene, Texas; and several great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband on July 13, 2002.
