moyie Springs man taken hostage during robbery

A man taken hostage in his Moyie Springs home and a burglary at a Naples business are believed to be related, According to Boundary County Chief Deputy Sheriff Rich Stephens.

A man was overtaken and robbed in his home on Jan 7. in Moyie Springs.  One day later, JJ’s Cook Shack was burglarized.

 Doug White was at home around 11 p.m. Jan. 7 when he heard a loud knocking at the front door,  Stephens said before he could answer the door, two young men broke the door frame, forcing their way into the home. 

They threw a blanket over White’s head so he was not able to identify them, Stephens said.  The men apparently threatened White by sticking a metal object in his back, which White thought was a gun.  A pipe  found in the house later may have been the object.

The men got away with White’s wallet and some cash, Stephens said.  There are no suspects at this time and evidence collected at the scene is being processed. 

At 5:30 a.m. Jan.9, the owner of JJ’s  Cookshack on Highway 95 in Naples reported a burglary.

Judi Terry discovered  broken glass from a window near the double-entry doors.  She said that the metal door had been pried open and the second door’s glass was broken.  Terry called 911.

“I saw the stuff all over the floor from where they took the cash registers out,” she said.

Among the things stolen from the restaurant were cigarettes, cases of beer, money and both cash registers. 

“I am okay, but I was a little shaken up at the time,” said Terry. “We have insurance for some of the things taken, but there is a $1,000 deductible we are still out.”
