Woman proud of career path

| January 22, 2009 8:00 PM

My name is Connie DeCoe Munier and I am a medical transcriptionist.  I recently won the western states election and am now secretary-elect of AHIDI-WEST.

I work at home and thoroughly enjoy the freedom of working my hours and the days I choose to work and earn benefits.  I’m the retired police officer that wanted desperately to volunteer at the police department to work cold case files.  But, alas, I had to be in the workforce again to earn a buck.  Since you first met me 5 years ago here in Bonners Ferry, I decided to advance in my career as a medical transcriptionist.

I took a refresher course, got credentials; I’m now a certified medical transcriptionist and in order, have been promoted to supervisor as a quality assurance editor with the best company I have ever worked in this field, Transcription Relief Services.

In the course of my journey with the Association of Healthcare Documentation Integrity, a non-profit organization with many benefits that medical transcriptionist join, I decided to incorporate all of the western states (Idaho, Utah, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, California and Hawaii) and become one entity.  An election was held for officers, and I am proud to say I won secretary-elect of ADHI-West for 2009-1010.

I am very proud of our state being represented in this field throughout the western states, and am so proud to be Idaho’s only representative.  There are 30,000 jobs available in this field (now being outsourced overseas because our job force did not know there is a need for this) and bringing jobs home to our state and the western states is my goal.

My husband, Sonny, has taken on the task of fundraising in the form of a silent auction, to help AHDI-West; anyone wanting to participate or donate, please contact him at 267-5005.  He is a go-getter and is anxious for your help or donations.   It is good advertising for you and satisfying to know you are brining our jobs back to the United States.

I want to get Idahoans interested in this field, especially with voice recognition abroad; editors are all important now.  Please feel free to look a the AHDI Web site, the TRS Web site and the Transcription Relief Services Institute Web site.

TRS, my company, has a credited school and in a relatively short period of time you can become a registered medical transcriptionist.  At the end of your successful course, you too will have this job.  Just think about being able to stay home and earn $2,500 a month or more with benefits, then joining AHSI to receive continuing education and enhancing your career to achieve your CMT is a bonus to our profession and yours.  In this time of financial uncertainty excellent paying jobs with benefits are a rarity.

Hi to all my fellow Bonners Ferry neighbors; I’m proud to represent our city and our state.
