Watt, Hampton, Schmitz, Stockdale get pins

Four Bonners Ferry wrestlers pinned opponents, helping the Badgers to a 60-36 victory over Kellogg.

Against Kellogg, sophomores Benny Watt, Trevor Hampton and  Brandon Schmitz, and junior Aaron Stockdale had pins.

Kellogg was missing many wrestlers, and the Badgers collect several forfeits.  The victory put the Badgers at 2-1 in Intermountain League competition.

On the same night, the Badgers lost a non-league match to Lakeland 68-12.

“Lakeland Hawks are very solid,” said Badger coach Conrad Garner. “Throughout the line-up, they allowed the Badgers only two wins — Watt and Hampton.”

Senior Dayne Swisher, a returning state champion in the 140-pound class, and junior letterman Joe Neumeyer were out of the line-up with injuries and should be back soon.

At the Clearwater Classic Wrestling Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Hampton took fourth at 135, competing in a large field. Hampton’s tournament record is 5-2.

“(That was an ) outstanding accomplishment for the weekend,” Garner said.

Other wrestlers close to placing were Watt and Schmitz.

The wrestlers will travel to Kellogg for three days of competition, opening tonight, Jan. 29, and running through Saturday, Jan. 31. The Bonners Ferry league tournament will be held at home on Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7.
