When home, business is added to parcel, address needs reported

| January 29, 2009 8:00 PM

With Boundary County’s new addressing system in place, there are a few things to keep in mind.

When a single-family home is converted into a duplex, a business leases space to other businesses, or when additional homes or businesses are established on a property, county GIS technician Gary Falcon must be informed so the new addresses can be assigned.

One of the primary purposes of establishing the addressing system was to improve emergency response.

When there’s only one business or residence on a parcel, the address will include a number followed by the road name. From that address, county firefighters, ambulance personnel and sheriffs deputies know the road and the distance to the access to that place, not to mention mail and parcel carriers.

However, when there are multiple residences or businesses in a single building, additional information has to be provided to get response to the right residence or business, and the system established was designed to accommodate this, and does accommodate such uses that were in place when the system was adopted.

To find out more, call Falcon at 267-5395.
