Runners Compete in Whitefish Lake Run
Three Bonners Ferry youth’s Zach and Brittany Hammond and Zoe Zielinski, made a trip to Whitefish, Mont., last weekend to participate in the 32nd annual Whitefish Lake Run.
The run features a 5K and 10K road race. This year brought record participation with 571 runners, 408 in the 5k and 163 in the 10K.
Zach Hammond finished the race in 12th place overall among a field of 172 male 5K runners and received first place for his age group with a finishing time of 18:39, a 32 second improvement on his time for the Kootenai River Run just 2 weeks ago.
Brittney Hammond finished in 138th place among a field of 236 women. Her finishing time of 34:18 was an astonishing 4:15 better than her finishing time two weeks ago in the River Run, which was her first ever 5K.
Zielinski, although not an official finisher of the race, completed the race in approximately 39 minutes.
