Bonners Ferry 9- to 10-year-old All-Star Little League team went 1-1 over the Fourth of July, losing to Coeur d’Alene 8-7 and defeating St. Maries 4-3.

Bonners Ferry will continue the tournament Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, in Coeur d’Alene.

Against Coeur d’Alene, Bonners Ferry lost despite having a 6-0 lead.

Bonners earned 4 runs in the first inning with singles from Junior Porter and Dylan Unruh. Jesse Dunham, Zack Egge and Jaeger Schnuerle drew walks

Unruh pitched 4 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts, 2 walks to lead Bonners Ferry 4-0.

Unruh and Kaleb Stockton got on base in the top of the fifth with walks; Mic Skeen got a single but tagged out on the steal.

Dunham hit a fly ball and Davey Winn grounded out to first. but Bonners scored 2 more to lead 6-0.

In the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, Porter and Jess Dunham struggled to keep the lead with Coeur d’Alene coming away with 6 to tie the game and go into an extra inning.

In the seventh inning, Unruh walked and Kendall Stone hit a double to bring Unruh home to take the lead again 7-6.

In the bottom of the seventh, a Coeur d’Alene player got his first hit of the game, bringing two home for the 8-7 win.

Against St. Maries, winning pitcher was Ryker Hittle, who faced 16 batters in the first five innings, striking out 8, pitching no walks and giving up 6 base hits with great defense from fielders and Caleb Blackmore behind the plate.

In the bottom of the first inning, Egge hit a fly out. Porter and Stockton both got ground-outs, and in the second inning, Unruh and Hittle struck out. Blackmore grounded out with the game still scoreless.

In the third inning, Dunham hit a line drive that was snagged by a St. Maries’ pitcher. Egge grounded out, Kevin Gray struck out and Schnuerle scored on an overthrow to first with Bonners leading 1-0.

The bottom of the fourth inning brought the game to life when Porter got on base with a single, but got out on the steal to second base. Stockton grounded out.

Unruh and Blackmore got on base with singles. Hittle hit one deep to right field, scoring all three with Bonners now up 4-0.

Hittle faced his last batter with a strikeout and Dunham went in giving up 2 runs in the fifth inning. Bonners did not put anymore runs on the board with a ground-out from Schnuerle. Raul Rodriquez and Kendall Stone struck out.

The sixth inning was tough when Dunham struck out the first batter, but gave up 3 hits and walked one for a 4-3 score with runners on second and third. Dunham held strong and struck out the last batter for Bonners to win the game
