All-Stars beat Silver Valley
The Bonners Ferry 9- and 10-year-old Little League All-Stars went 2-2 in their tournament.
In the final two games played last weekend, Bonners Ferry defeated Silver Valley 4-2 and lost 11-5 to Post Falls.
Against Silver Valley on Saturday, Junior Porter was the starting pitcher for Bonners, facing three batters in the first inning and striking out two.
Bonners got one on base in the second with a single from Caleb Blackmore,
Porter kept the game scoreless through the second with two more strikeouts and stopping a line drive, beating the runner to first baseman Kaleb Stockton.
In the next three innings, Bonners was making contact with the ball with singles from Zach Egge, Mic Skeen and Stockton with no runs scored.
Junior faced 8 batters in the bottom of the third as Silver Valley scored 2 runs, thanks to great defensive plays from second baseman Dylan Unruh.
Blackmore threw in the fifth inning, giving up a base hit and striking out two, leaving the score still 2-0.
At the top of the sixth Unruh scored on a double, Blackmore hit a double, and Schnuerle hit an RBI groundout to bring Blackmore home to tie the game.
Unruh was put in the bottom of sixth in hopes of holding Silver Valley and took Bonners into extra innings for the second time in tournament. Unruh threw a strikeout and Blackmore made a double play at second.
In the seventh, Silver Valley gave up walks to Gray, Egge, and Porter before Stockton hit a first-pitch 2-RBI single bringing home two to take a 4-2 lead and win.
On Sunday coaches knew Post Falls offense would be hard to stop so Unruh started pitching in hopes to keep a tight game with Egge behind the plate.
Post Falls got on base in the first inning with 2 walks, a single and an over-the-fence, ground-ruled double by Jacob Phenning, scoring 2.
Bonners also scored 2 in the first inning with Porter and Stockton getting on base with walks, Unruh hit an RBI single, Egge and Skeen both singled and Ryker Hittle hit an RBI single.
Post Falls scored one run during its next bats, leading 3-2.
Post Falls scored 2 on some errors in the top of the 3rd but good defensive fielding with a tag from Egge at the plate and groundout at first, but now with score of 5-2.
No runs were scored in the bottom of the 3rd with Jaeger Schnuerle and Egge on with base hits.
Ryker faced 4 batters in the fourth inning, including a grounder he threw in time to first baseman Kaleb who almost got the double play at home and Post Falls scoring one.
Bonners came back with 2 base hits from Rodriquez and Porter when Stockton hit a 2 RBI single bringing them both home. Unrh also got on base with a single and Egge with a groundout, before a full count strikeout ended the fourth 6-4.
Post Falls made two more base hits in the fifth and scored 3 runs.
Schneurle hit another single, and with good base running, made it to third when Davey Winn hit a grounder but got out at first. Ryker hit a chopper and beat the throw to first with an RBI single bringing Schneurle home.
The score was 9-5 in favor of Post Falls.
Post Falls scored two more to hold onto the win.
