Drexel Love stopped by The Herald last week while on a girl’s day out with her granddaughter Darby Biehl, 13, of Phoenix. The pair shopped and had lunch at the deck at Kootenai River Inn.

Darby is the daughter of Loren and Debbie Biehl. Debbie graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1984.

Darby visited for two weeks with her parents; brother, Bradley, 11; and Bradley’s friend, Peter Scifo. It took three days to drive the 1,400 miles from Arizona.

• Got word that former Bonners Ferry resident Jason Little has been diagnosed with cancer.

A 1989 graduate of Bonners Ferry High School, Jason is the son of Jim and Terry Stackhouse of Bonners Ferry. Jason is being treated at a hospital in Tacoma, Wash.

He and his wife Rhonda  are the parents of Joshua, Kelly and Karrigan. They live in Seattle.

If anyone is interested in helping the family, call Jason’s sister, Tiffany Little, at 208-610-1330 or by e-mail at bonnersferryidahocurves@yahoo.com.

• The Herald raised $113 for the Idaho National Guard’s Family Readiness Group in Bonners Ferry. Advertising director Jennifer Van Etten headed up the fundraiser with help from David Kuhn and co-workers Shirley Crenshaw, Julie Golder, Lindsay Branson and Gwen Albers.

Three Mile Cafe, Safeway and Panhandle Restaurant also donated to the cause. The money will be used to ship items to soldiers overseas, family emergencies and the annual Christmas party

Under the Sun won The Herald’s Crazy Days costume contest and will received a one-quarter page ad. Ashley Winkelseth, Kynsie Yount, Hannah Cady and Robin Stevens dressed up for the downtown gift shop and restaurant.

• After featuring a story about Piper, the resident cat at Tucked Away gift shop in downtown Bonners Ferry in need of surgery, store owners Helen and Stephanie Chase received $90 with more promised.

Two surgeries are needed to prevent Piper’s rear knee caps from popping out of place at a cost of up to $2,000. So far more than $500 has been raised. A woman from Maryland also said she would donate some money.

Donations can be made at Tucked Away at 7174 Main St.
