Lowell Wayne Anderson, 81

Lowell Wayne Anderson, 81, of Pleasant Valley passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bonners Ferry.

Lowell was born Dec. 3, 1927, to Luther and Alice Anderson in Crosby, N.D.

He moved to a farm in Pleasant Valley when he was 7 years old. Lowell attended Moravia Grade School and Bonners Ferry High School.

Enlisting in the Army in 1946, he spent time in Camp Fuchinobie, Japan, where Lowell helped in the reconstruction effort.

Returning to Bonners Ferry, he married the former Beulah Carol McCalmant on April 8, 1948, at the Hitching Post in Coeur d’Alene. They had sons Roger Lee, Benny Gene and Oscar Dean. Lowell and Beulah also raised their nephew Leroy and niece Freida.

Lowell logged for Pack River Lumber Co. and began Cat skidding and trail building. He later purchased a Cat D6B crawler and began logging for Koyle Hatfield.

In 1969, Lowell formed Anderson Logging and began working for Bonners Ferry Lumber Co., building roads and logging. Along with their logging operation, the Anderson family maintained a Grade A Dairy for 10 years on Highland Flats.

Lowell and Beulah moved to Pleasant Valley in 1970 .

After retiring from logging and road building, Lowell took up farming and spent many happy hours on his tractor. They enjoyed several winters in Yuma, Ariz., and put many miles on their motor home traveling with friends and family.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years; a sister, Lois Bussey, and her husband Jim; sons Roger and his wife, Sue, Ben and his wife, Dorothy, and Oscar and his wife, Shirley; eight grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church of Bonners Ferry.
