100 youth participate in free fishing day

Looking at the “fish out of water” around Snow Creek pond during Saturday’s Bonners Ferry Lions Kids Fishing Day was proof of another successful year.

"There was about 100 kids this time, which is a little bit less, but still a great turnout and perfect weather for the day," said club’s President Dave Noel.

Every year the Lions sponsors the free event, providing tackle and fishing poles for children whocome to the Lions’ pond. 

The Kootenai Tribe stocked the pond with about 500 trout and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game supplied the live bate.

The pond at the Lions club park ground is open all summer seven days a week.  The pond is open for fishing as long as the gates are open.

"We rent the space for larger parties, like weddings, reunions and it comes with the use of the entire park and club house, which has a kitchen," said Noel.

The Lions Club also sponsors the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Bonners Ferry Junior Miss program, High School Robotics.  The club also donated the track at the high school, and raises money by parking cars for Memorial Day activities and at the demolition derby.

"We fund most of our free programs with the demolition derby proceeds, and what we make, we put right back into the community," Noel said.
