Bonners Ferry Lifeguards sporting new teal swimsuits

The six lifeguards at Bonners Ferry swimming pool are about to sharpen their image and get noticed. 

The lifeguards will sport  teal swimsuits and matching T-shirts with the lifeguard emblem to help the children and parents  identify them in case of an emergency.

“I think that it is important that the public know who the lifeguards are,” John Langs said during Monday night’s council meeting.

Mayor Dave Anderson said the lifeguard swimsuits would also add a sense of professionalism without a large expense and would make the whole place look sharp. 

The lifeguards are on board with the idea, according to city manger Stephen Boorman.  The two-piece girls’ swimsuits are modest and the T-shirts are a small expense and add protection from the sun. The uniforms are expected to cost less than $500 and should last two seasons.

 The issue about the uniforms was brought before council to get permission on the matter that otherwise would not be on the agenda.  This is due to the recent memo Kris Larson, treasurer for the city, put out on curbing unnecessary expenditures. 

“I didn’t realize that the lifeguards were not identified until I went there (to the pool) with my grandkids,” said council president  David Gray . “ It sets them aside so mothers and grandfathers know where to go for help.”
