Five Boundary County men set state power lifting records during a recent competition in Coeur d’Alene.

Those who set records while competing against more than 80 others were Tom Schneider, Joseph Scholten, Robert Baker, Travis Wheatley and Eddie Madden Sr.

Schneider was awarded “Best Lifter” of the tournament while capturing a state record in the Teen 16- to 19-year-old, 198-pound division. Schneider weighed in at 191 and pressed 290 pounds. The weight the lifter completes is divided by their body weight. He was the strongest lifter pound-for-pound in the event.

Baker also set a state record in the Teen 16- to 19-year-old, 132-pound division. To make the class, he had to lose 11 pounds in five weeks. Baker pressed 250 pounds in the show.

Competing in the Law and Fire 198-pound division was Joseph Scholten, pressing 300 pounds. Travis Wheatley competed in the Teen 16- to 19-year-old, 165-pound division, lifting a maximum lift of 260 pounds.

Entering a power lifting event for the first time was Eddie Madden Sr. in the 198-pound Master division. Madden pressed 170 pounds, also a state record.

Also competing were Mike Strapelli and Bill Elliston. It was Strapelli’s first show. He lifted 180 pounds even with the flu.

The men work out at Iron Mike's Family Fitness at Three-Mile.
