Naples voters chose lifelong resident Lisa Dirks over retired Air Force veteran Bill Huston during Tuesday’s Boundary County School Board election.

Dirks defeated Huston 74-13 for the volunteer position.

“I was pleased,” Dirks said. “I’m looking forward to being involved.”

Dirks fills the school board seat held by the late Maria LaBarbera.

Dirks said Wednesday she believes her biggest challenge will be learning the different topics and making good decisions that benefit students and everyone else.

The daughter of Gary and Anne Regehr, Dirks graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1991 and attended the University of Idaho for 1 1/2 years. Dirks earned a certificate in sales and marketing from Trend College in Spokane, Wash.

She was a teller for Panhandle State Bank and worked for First American Title. Dirks is the secretary for Regehr Logging and co-owns Richardson and Dirks Tree Care in Bonners Ferry and has volunteered for the Bonners Ferry Jr. Miss program for 14 years.

She and her husband, Doug, are the parents of Ivy, 14, and Tucker, 11.

Huston retired from the Air Force after 20 years. During his last nine years in the military, he served as an Air Force instructor, involved in electronic aircraft systems and aircrew training of B-52 Bomber crew members.
